Matt Brown, lead singer of FLYING BLIND
AUDIO: | RealPlayer

Describe how you came to realize that making music was your "calling"?

I think when I realized how much fun it was. It made me feel really good to make other people feel good while I was on stage. One of the greatest feelings in the world is to see people really connecting with your music and your songs.

What was your dream before you became a member of the group (if any). Any other big plans before your musical career?

I always was going to be the very first NFL quarterback to have two simultaneous top 10 singles. Honestly, I did play college football, and I love sports, but I always had a passion for music.

What do you think about our new President?

I really like his name. No seriously, I am not really sure if one would be better than the other. I guess we'll see over the next couple of years.

What do you do that most appeals to teens?

I think we go out and have a blast out on stage, and we put a lot of energy into our show. When teens come to our show, they appreciate the fact that we are sweating on stage for them and of course we have excellent songs.

What artist(s) would you love to work with in the future?

I'd like to work with Elvis, but he's dead. I have always loved the Beatles, so it would be great to do something with George Harrison or Paul McCartney.

What 5 CDs are in your car, or your CD player at home right now?

1. Nirvana (Nevermind) 2. The Beatles (The White Album) 3. The Verve 4. Mr. Bungle (their first record) 5. Frank Sinatra (Swinging Songs for Lovers)

How do you feel about Napster?

For a band like us it's great. It's cool that our music can get across the country before it gets on radio. I also see the downside though, because it could potentially hurt CD sales after an artist is established.

Are teens today different from when you were a teen?

I think so. I wasn't teen THAT long ago, but I think that they have changed in that they are more independent and more into what they do and what they like.

What message do you have to give to teens today? What would you say (in a few words/sentences) to a group of graduates at a High School Graduation?

It's hard to believe, but in most cases what your parents tell you is right. Follow your dreams. Most of all, be happy.

What advice would you give a teenager that feels that they don't have a chance at getting signed to a label?

Keep your nose to the grindstone. Don't give up. Find the right people and then bust a**. Play music because you love it, not because you want to get signed to a record deal.
