The group, 'Nappy Roots' put on an incredible concert at the Karma Club in Boston. They played a wide variety of tracks off their newest CD, including their hit song “Awnaw.”

'Nappy Roots' is comprised of some of the most talented and educated musicians I have met to date. I was spellbound to hear that they all passed high school, they all moved on to college, and the DJ is even a schoolteacher. These musicians have used their education to help propel themselves into one of the most competitive industries across the country.

I have gained an utmost respect for these musicians and I am very excited to hear what they will come out with in the future. -Andrew

What musicians are you guys inspired by?

“Nas, Dungeon Family, Outkast, Stevie Wonder, etc. If they can do it, so can we. It’s all about taking advantage of talent.”

Who writes the lyrics for your songs?

“Everyone writes their own lyrics in all our songs. Everyone has something different to say or express to our fans. Our music speaks for itself."

How did you break into the music scene?

“First you should know that we are all educated, passing high school and moving on to college while growing up in Kentucky. But it all started in college. We all met and ended up rapping together after classes. It was a constant struggle stayin in school and rapping, but keeping education as a priority we were able to do both. It is stupid not to take advantage of school. We grew an underground following which helped us branch out. We started getting out T-shirts with our name on it to all the fraternities and sororities. We got our name out there and began a reputation. We then got spots on our college radio and TV appearances as well. In 1998 we got our first CD out there, 'Country Fried Cess'.”

Tell me about your latest CD, ‘Watermelon, Chicken, and Gritz’?

“You ain’t gotta be country to understand it. Our music is just like those foods - fresh of the earth, of the soul. We're trying to make people realize that it's good to be just you, that's essentially what 'Nappy Roots' is about."

Where do you see music going to in the future?

“The world is constantly changing around us. Folks are havin fun and hopefully we will live in a better world. We are here to make music and make people happy. Hip hop is certainly crossing boundaries as does our music. Music calms the savage beast and will always grow and change.”

What can you say to all your fans at TeenFX.com?

“Keep education as your main focus in life. It’s all about your family and beliefs, which will help guide you throughout life. Thanks for the support and we hope to see you on tour.”

Nappy Roots is the best. I'm from Kentucky (Hart County) and I know all the places they talk about in their songs. I even go to school at WKU. I used to work with Big-V's cousin at Jerry's Resturant in Cave City.....and Big-V thanks Pops in the new album "Watermelon, Chicken, and Grits" and I've met Pops. They went to school at WKU, which is in Bowling Green, but I understand a lot of the places they talk about (Interstate 65.. oh yeah).
