How and when did you get into the music business?
I got in the music industry by auditioning for a boy band. After the boy band thing flopped, I ended up becoming a solo artist, and receiving a contract from Dallas Austin’s label, Freeworld.
Is it hard to juggle schoolwork with your busy schedule?
I try to put school as my top priority. I try to devote 4 solid hours of school everyday when I am on the road. After I am completed with school, I can continue with my schedule.
Is it hard to stay close to your friends and family with such a busy work schedule?
Not at all! I have so many ways to communicate with them, whether it be through e-mail, AOL, or wasting my fathers minutes on his cellular.
TeenFX.com has very active message boards where teens can discuss topics that range from relationships to politics. Do you think these sounding boards add to or help teens deal with today’s stressful environment?
I think it gives us teens a chance to be able to speak out, without having to worry what other people think of them. I know a lot of teens won’t speak out about certain topics, because they are afraid of what people might think. So the message boards really help out, because they can speak openly on any topic, and they can do it anonymously.
What would you like to tell teens about yourself? What kind of message would you like to send to today’s teens?
I just want to tell the teens of today that I am no different from them. Just because I sing, and perform on stage, doesn’t make me any bigger than any of them. Before I was doing this, I was a teen who went to school, who went on dates to the movie theaters, and who just hung out with my friends like any other teen. Sure, some things are different for me now, but I still do school work, I still go on dates to the movie theaters, and I still hang out with my friends. And it’s the same with other teen entertainers as well…
What would you say is your greatest fear regarding your career?
You know, the only fear I have is that when I am performing on stage, I break my leg, or I slip and fall. That’s about the only thing I am afraid of.
What was it like touring with BBMak, and are you excited to be opening for O-Town?
It was very exciting to be on tour with BBMak, because it was my first tour ever. Being on tour was even more exciting, because the whole vibe of that tour was so energized. You had the cameras following you, you had fans trying to sneak in, girls trying to push over O-Towns bus, even girls trying to jump on stage! It was so much fun, because the fans had so much energy to give, and it really helped out with the performances!
Do you write any of your own songs?
I didn’t write any of the songs on my last album, but on the next one, I will definitely try to have some input into the songs. I think it’s important for an artist to actually tell the story from his or her own perspective.
Have you been influenced by any artists?
Oh yes, definitely! My main inspirations, overall, are Michael Jackson, Marc Anthony, and Brian McKnight. But I grew up listening to Boyz II Men, Shai, Jodeci, Silk, Color Me Badd, All-4-One, and so many more artists. I really miss the R&B of the early 90’s.
Where would you like to see yourself in 10yrs.?
I hope to see myself in different roles in 10 years. I’d love to get into acting. I would also like to write a book. But on the music side, I hope to be producing, song writing, and still recording and performing on stage.
How was it making the video for “Boom”?
It was so exciting! I think that’s one thing every teen would want to do, be on the set of a music video! There were so many people on the set, from the extras, to the crew, and everyone was so professional, and also, very genuine. They were all nice people, and I am glad to have worked with them. The director of the video, Kevin Hunter, was really nice too! It was his first video too, so we really got a long great! Kevin Hunter is the younger brother of video director Paul Hunter, who’s worked with Lenny Kravitz, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and the list goes on!
Are there any artists that you would like to work with in the future?
There are so many artists I would love to collaborate with…. I’d love to perform with Michael Jackson, song write with Brian McKnight, or just produce with Timbaland. How about something with the girls from Dream….

Too many people trying to start music careers. American Idol is a perfect example, even though Kelly Clarkson cheated and already had a record deal before she went on the show.

I have always thought that Richard Lugo was the best everys since I heard him on Take 5's cd. I think that I listened to Boom more than I did any of the Take 5 songs, but Take 5 still rules, except I don't think that they are called that anymore

I've seen Lugo at an O-town concert here in Jacksonville Fl. At first I was like who is lugo than he came on stage and he was good. I never heard 1 song of his but after I liked them all. I bought his album and it's good. I know all the lyrics by heart to every song. He's very talented and can dance and sing. If he came back here to Jacksonville I will go and see him again. He's great.
