Cruising the Caribbean
For spring break this year I went on a cruise. I had never been on one before and it was amazing! I had so much fun! I went with my mom (she really wanted to go and none of my friends could afford to go. Plus, my mom and I get along well). We went to a travel agent because I didn't know exactly what I wanted and I figured that would just be easier. Basically all I knew was that I wanted a Caribbean cruise. So she showed me a bunch of options and I ended up picking an 8-day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Carnival Liberty.
I should mention, I'm from Michigan and there was still snow on the ground when I left for this trip. So just going to Florida was nice enough! We left from Ft. Lauderdale. The ship itself was huge! I was really excited to explore all of it and see what cool things there were to do onboard.
So the first day was a day at-sea. It was pretty fun. The cruise director and social hosts played a lot of games on the deck and everyone was lying out. The ship had almost 3,000 passengers on it, but it really didn't seem crowded at all. The second day we went to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I was really excited because I had wanted to go to Puerto Rico since I was little. And it was really cool. We walked all over Old San Juan and it was beautiful. The next day the ship went to St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. This island was amazing! It was absolutely gorgeous! We walked through the town and went shopping, went up to Paradise Point and then went over to Magean's Bay. I would highly recommend going there! The next day we went to Antigua. I had never even heard of Antigua before my cruise. It was definitely different. It was a developing country and was very interesting. First we did a tropical forest hike where we went up to the top of the second tallest mountain on the island. It was really cool. Then we went to a beach - which is pretty much required because Antigua has 365 beaches. One for every day of the year!! Anyway, it was hard to describe Antigua, but it was definitely interesting and beautiful. The day after that we went to the British Virgin Islands. The ship docked in Tortola, but my mom and I took a ferry over to Virgin Gorda. There we went down to the Baths. It was one of the coolest places I've ever seen!! There are tons of huge rocks in the water and caves to explore. It was absolutely breathtaking!
Anyway, the cruise was amazing and I would highly recommend taking a cruise. However, cruises are not for everyone. I would definitely recommend going to a travel agent and talking with them to find out which cruise is best for you, or if a cruise is right for you at all. But if it is, check out the Carnival Liberty! :)
