Antivirus Software
I purchased a Gateway laptop in June for college. It came with McAfee antivirus software, but it was a trial version, so it only lasted about thirty days. In truth, I'm glad. I know McAfee is one of the top antivirus software programs, but for some reason, I didn't like it. Yes, it protected my computer, but it also tended to slow it down.
When my trial expired, I didn't renew it. I had no idea what program I wanted to replace it with though. My grandfather uses Norton, but that takes too long to scan, and it slows his computer down as well. It was stupid, but I went about a month without getting other protection. Thankfully, my laptop didn't become infected with anything.
A friend of mine here at college is really into computers, so I asked him if he knew of any good software for my needs. He suggested two; I can't recall the first one. He only mentioned it briefly because he thought it to be more advance than I cared for.
The one I downloaded was BitDefender. I went through the 30-day trial and decided I loved it! It's really simple to run, and it doesn't pop up fifty millions times a day. The scanning time is half of what Norton and McAfee take, and the real-time protection seems non-existent.
Best of all, it's only $29.95 for the basic package -- great on a college budget! Download it, install, enter your license key, and you're set! The 30-day trial is available at {http://www.bitdefender.com}. You can upgrade afterwards if you feel so inclined. :)
