How Should I Melt?
I have a massive dilemma! Later on in the week I am going for an audition for the Witch of the West in the Wizard of Oz and I really need some acting advice! I have not been given a script and I have never seen the movie of The Wizard of Oz but I have to do the scene where I die! Can anyone give me some advice and information on what happens in this scene? What w ill I have to do and say? How will they make it look like I am melting? More to the point... how do I melt and what should I look like when I melt? Please save me from embarrassment!

If you are nervous...your director is going to be able to tell that you are nervous. One thing to remember when you are on stage...you are not you. You become the character. When you get up there to audition it's not you up there making a fool of yourself, it's the wicked witch dying. An audience doesn't see you up there...they see the character. Once you become one with your character it makes things a lot easier. You have to try what feels most comfortable for you. If you feel that half way through melting you should just fall over and squirm, do it. Your director is there for a reason, to give you direction. Acting is all about learning. Break a leg.

I agree with Laura. Rent/buy the movie so you can get a visual on what you'll be doing. Take notes, too.

Oh, and good luck on playing such a cool character. :)

Definitely look into renting the movie so you can watch the scene you're doing and take notes of the actress' performance in the movie. Also, don't worry too much about it looking realistic. One way to 'act' like you're melting would be to slowly 'sink' into the floor so you end up in a fetal position on the ground. Don't worry about how realistic it may or may not look. If you make it believeable that you've melted, the audience will believe it.
