Jack Russell's are SO MISUNDERSTOOD!
I’m going to tell you a little about my experience with my Jack Russell Terrier because then you will see that they aren’t that bad. I got her when she was just a little baby and to tell you the truth I was at my wits end trying to understand her. She would growl at me constantly whenever I would touch her or try to play with her. She would chew on everything (which all puppies do), she took forever to potty train her, and when I would punish her because she would potty on the floor she would get REALLY mad at me.
Finally I had had enough and I told my boyfriend that I wanted to get rid of her, but I couldn’t do it. I’m a HUGE animal lover and I couldn’t find it in my heart to just throw her out of my life, but I needed help and fast!! So I went out and got a book on Jack Russell Terriers and read the whole thing in a night and everything mentioned in that book was true. She wasn’t growling at me because she was a bad dog, she was doing it because that’s what they do when they play. She wasn’t getting mad at me when I was scolding her, they just have a mind of their own. I was sad when I read the part of the book that said that so many people get rid of Jack Russell Terriers because they just can’t handle them, kind of like me.
I’m so glad I didn’t get rid of her because in the last page of the book they said that if you can put up with them for a year they will be the best dogs in the world, and they couldn’t be more right. Jackie is the best dog in the whole world. She tells us when she needs to potty, she takes showers by herself (she jumps in while someone is in the shower, she can’t turn it on by herself ) When we are sitting on the couch she sits right there with us and behaves herself, she’s basically a little baby that tells us what she wants and when she wants it.
can't stress enough that they will be hell on wheels the first year, after that they become your best friend for life. I love them so much that I’m getting another one!!!!
