Don't Blame The Breed Because Of The People
Pit Bulls = Love

I know that many people will disagree with me on this topic, but lately I have been reading a lot into pit bulls. I have one half pit bull who is four years old and one purebred pit bull who is six months old. I had a purebred pit bull who died two years ago from cancer. He was ten years old.

I love my dogs to death, and none of them are or were mean. I think that all dogs have a chance of being aggressive. It all depends on how you raise them. If you keep a dog chained up in your backyard with no attention, of course it's going to be mean. But if you love your dog, teach it right from wrong, and give it the care it deserves, then it can be a loving dog.

Yes, pit bulls do have more of an aggressive side then some other dogs (i.e. Labradors), but if you raise them and teach them not to show that aggressive side, then they won't. Yes, pit bulls do attack people, but so do other dogs. Both of my brothers and I have been attacked by dogs when we were younger; me by a Black Lab, my older brother by a Chow, and my younger brother, also by a Black Lab. The Black Lab almost killed me, and I had to stay in the hospital for a week.

The way I look at it, is pit bulls are just like people. If you sit there and antagonize a person, what are they going to do? Yell at you or beat the crap out of you. If you sit there and antagonize a dog - it's going to bite. Plain and simple. You give dogs the respect they deserve, and they'll give it right back to you.

Neither of my dogs have ever bitten anyone out of anger. The dog who passed away had never bitten anyone out of anger except for my older brother when we were wrestling. But he never broke the skin.  He was just protective and very loving. I disagree greatly with bans on pit bulls. It is not their fault that ignorant people raise them that way. But like I said before, pit bulls can be just as loving as another dog given the chance. Spread knowledge not ignorance.

Thanks for reading my article!

people who think any kind of dog is mean just bcuz of its breed are retarded . we have had great pyrenese's that were more aggressive than our german shephard's. it all depends on the dog and how it is raised, i completely agree

I think that it is no particular breed that is mean. Every breed of dog has the same potential of biting a person. I think that it is how the dog is raised and taken care of, not a specific breed! I really :) dogs, and I don't think any dogs that are truely :)d family members would bite unless provoked!

I own 2 pit bulls both are females and I have been raised around them. They are wonderful loyal dogs, that are good with children WHEN TRAINED RIGHT.What most people don't realize is how strong and how much training they take.Yes they are bred for gameness and can be dog agressive.I think its the people's fault who did not take responsibility to train their dogs.People who fight them are just a bunch of my :)s in my opinon!

i work at an animal shelter and i :) pit bulls. we just got a puppy pit in but i dont think i will be able to adopt it. there is also and older pit that i just fell in :) with (i know i cant adopt him because hes not big on children jumping on him and he doesnt agree with some dogs). but its true, each dog can be dangerous, i have been bitten by labs and even little beagles. the dog has to be raised right in a loving yet somewhat strict home and also has to socialized. i :) pits and would :) to own one. they get a bad rep along with german shepards, dobies and rotties. at work we got in a black lab who if it had the chance would have ripped your throat out because the guy that raised it beat it and starved it. the dog was taken by the cops and given to us and the guy was put in 2a(a mental hospital). but anything can attack. joe one of our older labs and hank one of our younger labs :) the people who work at the shelter but dont trust others who come in. at the shelter we has a zu, it was very nasty, it got along with all of us at first you just couldnt pick it up, but then it would jump up trying to bite up, you couldnt even get it out of the pen to take it in and out to the bathroom or to go for walks, but the thing with that dog was that it was never beaten or starved, it was to spoiled, it had to rules in its life, no training, it got everything it wanted from the lady who owned it, but she had died. it all depends on the dog and how its raised.

i totally agree....the breed does have a bad rep but its mostly because of the owners....i have two pits and yes one is kinda mean but its because he was raised around me and my family only so its just that instinct to protect us...the other one is a big baby and wouldnt know what to do if he bit someone ....either way its all how you make them....hell you could make a lab mean if you treated it wrong or tried to make it that way....so its nothing to do with the breed....and actually dalmations are supposed to be one of the meanest dogs anyways...so they can put that in their pipe and smoke it....the town that i live in makes you have insurance on pitbulls....so out of my pocket every month i pay about $35 bucks just so people can calm down...its stupid but oh well....
great article!

Pit bulls actually have a lower rate of attacking people than many other kinds of dogs. The media just chooses to spotlight pit bull attacks to push misconceptions.

Thanks for the replies guys! Yeah, you both have had a traumatic experience .. and I think it wouldn't matter what kind of dog it was, you would be un easy with them. Ya know? Cuz I know that I'm un easy around some chows now. But, around here, I live in Upstate New York, pits aren't really all that popular. You don't see many of 'em. So, our dogs don't really get that bad of a reputation. Sometimes people will freak out once they find out they are pits, but you wouldn't know that they were pits unless we told you, cuz they don't act mean. It's funny cuz yesterday was my brother's birthday and he had a bunch of 14 year old friends over. One of the boys was talking to me and he was like "I didn't know you guys got a new puppy, what kind is it?" and I told him it was a pit and he didn't believe me. He said "I thought all pits are mean, yours isn't mean." and then I told him that are other dog was half pit and he was like "NO WAY!" .. The only bad habit my puppy has is jumping on people when they first walk in the door, but I'm working on breaking that. I also think that by us living on a farm and people are always bring their dogs over and there are always people here, it helps our dogs. Cuz they really don't have time to be mean and they are always around new people. But, yeah, I'm done rambling, haha

I totally agree! I :) Pitbulls!!

Well my golden retriever got attacked by a pitbul a few weeks ago, and it really scared her. But that dog was out of control and its owner didn't look much better. I guess I'm still a little un easy about the breed, but i agree that if you raise them right pitbulls could probably be a loving dog too. I just don't think to highly of them right now.

i must confess if i see a pit on the street i get a sudden shock. Maybe this is because i got chased by one as a child ( sounds fine but it was REALLY scary- especially as i was 8). There have been loads of stories about pits killing people but i guess you're right it depends on how u raise them. I guess all dogs can be agressive but pits HAVE got a reputation. However i think if u raise them right they can be fine.
