Cells and Pagers
What's the deal with everyone being so obsessed with having cell phones and pagers and mp3 players now a days?  Seriously, some of you guys need some counseling!  Sure they are really handy to have around, and they make getting in touch with friends a lot easier, but they have major downfalls as well!  For one they burn a hole right through your pockets!  Most of the plans for cell phones cost a small fortune when you use them a lot, and I don't know how some of you guys can afford it!  Do your parents pay the bills?  As well, I find that cell phones and pagers are not only great ways for your friends to get a hold of you, but everyone that you don't want to talk to as well.  I had a cell phone for almost a year, which I paid for myself, and my bills would always end up getting really high because my mom or other annoying people would always call during the daytime.  I got rid of my phone when I moved cities and I'm really glad that I did because I've been saving a lot of money without it.  Now my brother has my old phone and my mom pays the bill for him.  I think that's just pathetic.  If you can't afford to pay for your own stuff, you should get a job!  And stop spending all of mommy and daddy's money.

First of all, cell phones are good for more than talking to friends. Like if an emergency came up and you had nowhere to go or something happened, how would you reach someone? I think it's a good idea it, and just because someone has a one, doesn't mean they rack up the bill and have someone else pay for it.

ok, there r services for cell phones that have set rates aka cricket. and a lot of ppl pay for their own $hit so don't go write an article about us bein "spoiled brats". and if u don't want ppl calling u, don't give them ur number. it's as easy as that. so chill.

Incidenatally, we dont pay for calls recieved on our cells here. It's free to you, it just costs the caller.

I live in the UK, and have had a cell for maybe 4 years now, I pay for all the bills myself and find it invaluable for running my business. I also use Minidisc a lot instead of MP3, since that's the format mainly used in Theatre, which i'm involved in.

I dont have them for the sake of having them. I need them!

Why do you just assume that everyone with a cell phone has their parents pay for them?? I am only 16 and I have a job. My mom told me when I had a job I would have to pay for everything. I bought my own car with no help from them. I also pay the monthly insurance myself, pay for dates and going out with friends and I do have a cell phone. I pay for the bill myself every month too. I think if a young person has a driver's lisence they SHOULD have a cell phone because then their parents can get a hold of them, and they have them in case of an emergency. Like if something goes wrong with your car you can call ur parents instead of having strangers help you out. So Dont write some article on here making it sound like every kid with a cell phone is a spoiled brat, cuz some of them actually pay for what they have and work hard for it.
