Not the Major of the Drums
Since before I can remember I always went to my older brother's marching band competitions. I always was fascinated by being able to march and play music at the same time. More than that though, I wanted to be that person up on the podium conducting. As I got older, the dream of being drum major never seemed to fade in my mind. Then I got into high school and entered a marching band of my own. My friend Kristen, I knew her from my freshman year, was our drum major, so I'd always talk with her and all that. My rookie year got over and it was time once again for the new drum major auditions. I right away knew that I was going to be auditioning, hands down. We had the auditions after many practice sessions. Then we had to wait for the banquet (as per norm) to find out. As luck would have it, I was named the new drum major. This honor, was bittersweet in a way because one of my friends was also set on having the position. He then started to resent me and it was bad. Then I had a talk with him and now we're cool. There really wasn't much point to that part so you can just ignore it. The whole purpose of this article is really just to ask advice of anyone in marching band or any drum majors. Any words of wisdom would be tremendously appreciated!
